...when bike parts are fashioned for you.
Jon Waldman over at Zero Per Gallon pulled out all his Goatless stops in the past couple weeks by making me a set of indestructibly badass & amazingly fashionable Power Grip replacement straps out of old bike tires.
A while back I contacted him for an interview Here at LFoaB and we bartered a deal for some ZPG stickers, patches & a belt. And this got me thinking... "The belt is great, works great and is -obviously- a smart thing as it is recycled over from its former life as a Cycler's tire... I wonder if he'd craft me a prototype pair of Power Grip straps from the same source, and just maybe he could end up offering those to the general Goatless rePublic as well? After all, the only thing that truly dies out on Power Grips is the straps ability to stay 'ballooned' therefore allowing one's foot to 'find' it and enter in... so a former bike tire w/its belted steel inner-casing should do that in spades & for decades."
After contacting him about this idea, him thinking it an interesting project: I shot him off an old pair of MKS Touring pedals w/some Power Grips attached, straight out to San Fran... I'd say it's a success!
He went full-on Monty Jonestown by crafting them into a one-of-a-kind piece of LFoaB bling, and I hope he ends up selling them as a fine addition to the ZPG line of goodness.
Can't wait to get 'em in the mail and mount them up on the El Dumbino.
