Sometimes The Point Is Just...
...Getting Home.
Tonight. I say "Tonight" because I purposely waited until dark to ride, to see if I could.
...and I did. For 22.32 miles. And it was one cold bitch of a ride.
At an intersection a very nice lady pulled up beside me and asked if I needed a ride, she had a bike rack on the back of her Toyota. I politely turned her down. She seemed puzzled as the light turned green and she pulled away.
Tonight's ride had two distinct purposes for me:
#1. To see if I could.
and...
#2. To feel how great it feels to get home.
...and it did.
Keep Ridin'... Always

You're nuts.
Well, if you had any left after the shrinkage from that ride.

Just in case you hadn't seen it, this article in the NY TImes discusses exercising in the cold.

Remember that as you continue to approach your ideal weight these rides will feel colder...
; )
(If your plan is for real then I guess you should enjoy riding in subzero temps while you can. But yeah, you're a little insane there.)

Again man, you rock! Good for you.
Properly equipped and with right attitude, riding in the winter can be a great adventure. I think you learn more about yourself, but that's one that is hard to explain and I haven't quite figured out fully.

Last night was a great night for a ride. I also waited until dark, took that long to get settled from the day and then get motivated I guess but what a great ride.
I've been reading your stuff for a while and wondered how far into the winter you would be riding. I should have known someone not only willing to face his own demons as you have but share the experience would just keep plugging away without much concern for something as trivial as the weather. Many folks want to change their lives but so few actually make it happen. Congrats to you for making it happen!
Keep riding, keep writing!

Very chilly this weekend, with or without good gear. I weighed myself down with a ton if beer on Friday and it was a sloooow ride home.
Of course I was more than happy to enjoy a little local microbrew once I got home...

yeah baby! I love riding in the cold. (It doesn't get nearly as cold in Nashvegas, but the locals think I am on crack) Keep on keepin' on. One suggestion: don't buzz your head in the middle of winter, it makes a HUGE difference.
